What to wear for your senior portrait session : Senior Portrait Photographer : Jackson Michigan Seni

Your senior portraits are a highlight of your senior year and one of the most anticipated events that an overwhelming majority of seniors look forward to. What you wear to your senior session is just as important as selecting the perfect photographer.

Consider this. What you decide to wear to for your senior portraits will leave a lasting impact far beyond today. Your senior portraits are the one image you will look back on to reflect on this life changing moment so when deciding on a what to wear take it seriously! No matter what type of photography session you are booking but especially with a senior portrait session don't take what you are going to wear lightly. I always tell clients that a portrait session is a great time and the perfect excuse to shop for new items to wear. You want your selections to fit well, not too loose and not too tight. What you wear should fit just right on your body, be ironed and not wrinkled. You don't want to look just thrown together, look messy like you just rolled out of bed this all applies regardless if you are male or a female.

Here are some guidelines to assist you in selecting the perfect wardrobe for your senior portraits:

FOR THE GIRLS:

Select colors that you look best in and that accentuate your eyes making your eyes a focal point. I personally recommend senior clients to stay away from bright neon or excessively bright shades of clothing. I also recommend that no busy prints, stripes, designs or tops with words/sayings as a selection.

You want wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. When you feel confident the camera will love it and it will show in how your images are captured.

When selecting what to wear try to select items that are timeless. Remember again that your senior portraits are one of the most important portraits you will take in your lifetime and the one portrait you will look back on as you reflect on your life and this pivotal transition into adulthood. You don't want to look back at what you wore and say to yourself what was I thinking when selecting my outfits!

Females should also not forget to accessorize and complete their wardrobe entirely. From shoes, to chunky necklaces, earrings, bracelets, wide rings even down to a belt with your jeans. And incorporating fun prop items that reflect your personality such as your favorite sunglasses, your favorite drink or something that is really special to you is a great way to create interest in your portraits. Create a wardrobe that is a package deal. Don't skimp on any details because it's all in the details and details do matter!

You can even incorporate a glamourous look with some of your senior portrait images. A formal gown is a striking choice! A glamour pose can be added to your session and be just one look of this exciting portrait session.

Your wardrobe selections can create multiple different looks that showcase your style, your personality and who you are.

Have fun with making your wardrobe

selections. It's an important milestone in your life so treat it with the importance it deserves!

FOR THE GUYS:

Some of the same rules apply for the guys as for the girls. Refrain from selecting bright neon or excessively bright colors. No busy prints, stripes or tops with words/sayings. The same thought about what to wear is not diminished for males. The decision on your wardrobe is just as important as for females.

As far as accessories for males, shoes should be plain and not flashy with dark colored socks so your socks match with dark colored pants and matching color socks with lighter colored pants so that your socks do not stand out and become an eyesore in your images.

Guys should also be sure to have a complete wardrobe and look put together from top to bottom just like the girls. Guys can also incorporate props to reflect their personality, their style and who they are. For some male clients this might mean adding sports into their session in a unique way.

As you make your wardrobe choices it is wise to do a dry run. A dry run is a dress rehearsal where you try on your outfits and see how they look. Sometimes what you think will look good might not look like your envisioned it to look. Doing a dry run you can allow you to make necessary adjustments beforehand if needed and prevent any distress the day of your session so that you can relax and are not stressed about making changes at the very last minute.
